Elefantentreffen 2026 Tickets and Preparation

Europe’s Legendary Winter Motorcycle Rally

What is Elefantentreffen?

Elefantentreffen is one of the world’s oldest and most demanding motorcycle rallies. Founded in 1956, it is a winter-only event that tests endurance, self-reliance, and respect for fellow riders and local communities.

Elefantentreffen is not a festival or a leisure rally. Participation requires arriving by motorcycle only, camping in winter conditions, and carrying everything you need on your bike or a small trailer. Support vehicles and comfort infrastructure are intentionally limited.

The rally has become legendary for its sense of community, shared hardship, and the mutual support between riders from across Europe and beyond.

  • Event dates: 29 January – 1 February 2026
  • Location: Thurmansbang, Bavaria

Organisation and Oversight

The rally is organised under the supervision of the BVDM, in cooperation with local authorities and landowners, to ensure rider safety, environmental protection, and the long-term future of the event.

  • There are no advance sales and no online ticket options.

Preparation: Kit and Clothing That Matter

Cold, damp conditions and mud are the primary challenges at Elefantentreffen. Proper equipment is essential for safety and endurance.

Recommended Riding Gear

  • Waterproof, windproof textile jacket and trousers with appropriate protective armour.
  • Thermal base layers that insulate while remaining breathable (top, leggings, and socks).
  • Winter riding gloves; heated gloves are strongly recommended to maintain control over long periods in the cold.

Adequate preparation is not about comfort alone — it is about remaining functional, safe, and capable in sustained sub-zero conditions.

Final Note

Elefantentreffen continues only through the cooperation and respect of its participants. Riders are expected to arrive prepared, behave responsibly, support one another, and respect the local environment and community.
